We hit the road with some of the NIU Volleyball players for a Kunes Car Convo — and let’s just say, the energy in the Jeep was just as high as it is on the court! From carpool karaoke to hot takes about hot dogs, this crew kept us laughing and entertained the whole ride.
🎤 Who’s the Best Singer?
Right out of the gate, we had to settle one of the biggest questions — who’s the best singer on the team? Sydney confessed she used to sing in choir and at church, but the jury’s still out on whether she’s the official car singer.
🏐 Team Culture & Bond
Ava shared what makes being on the NIU Volleyball team so special: the culture. With so many new players this year, she said the bond and chemistry are better than ever — and the whole car agreed with plenty of “retweets” and “reposts.”
🎒 What’s in the Bag?
We couldn’t resist a classic “what’s in your bag?” moment:
- Sydney: Wallet, deodorant, makeup bag, Stitch plushie, and NIU gear.
- Ellie: Rice Krispie treats, deodorant, resistance bands — essentials only.
- Ava: Koala water bottle, sunglasses, perfume (champagne toast), new slides, and fresh kicks.
Safe to say — these Huskies are always game-day ready.
🌭 Hot Take Debate
Ava stirred up some controversy: “A hot dog is not a sandwich.”
Sydney and others fired back with logic — bread, meat, bun = sandwich. The debate might not be settled, but it definitely kept the ride lively.
🏅 If Not Volleyball…
- Ava: Gymnastics (she can still do a backflip!)
- Sydney: Basketball or track
- Ellie: Tennis fan, even if she’s “not as good anymore”
📚 Class Favorites & Least Favorites
- Sydney: Favorite = English, Least = Calculus
- Ava: Favorite = Math, Least = English
- Ellie: Psychology so far (freshman life!)
🍝 Favorite Meals
- Ava: Pasta (spaghetti, Alfredo, or Cajun pasta)
- Ellie: Chicken, rice, and broccoli
- Sydney: Carne asada tacos 🌮
🚙 Wrapping it Up
We wrapped the ride with lots of laughs, team spirit, and big hopes for the upcoming season. NIU Volleyball is ready to dominate on the court — and maybe drop a mixtape on the side.
